also present. In his inaugural address, HRH Prince Guillaume said he
would extend his utmost cooperation in expanding ties between Nepal
and Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg), in the areas of trade
and tourism, as there are a lot of possibilities for cooperation in
these areas. Saying that the Benelux countries and Nepal are small constitutional
monarchies he said Nepal's relation with Benelux will help further expand
her ties with the European union in the areas of industry, trade and
tourism. A remarkable number of tourists from the Benelux countries
come to Nepal to enjoy her natural beauty, he noted. His Roy al Highness
also extended thanks for the warm and memorable hospitality extended
to him and his encourage.
President of NBCCI Mr. Mohan Krishna Shrestha from the chair said-
"In view of the small of the national market, the need to extend
the market for Nepal's product worldwide is quite necessary. Today the
world is more interdependent. No national can prosper in isolation.
With this in view, different bilateral chamber of commerce began to
be established after 1990. We preferred to establish Nepal - Benelux
Chamber of Commerce and Industries. The reason behind this being the
uniformity in the situations of Nepal and Benelux countries such as
constitutional monarchy, parliamentary system of government, small size
of the country and above all, the positive attitude of the prosperous
Benelux countries towards the less developed countries like Nepal. The
trade between Nepal and Luxembourg is far below the desired level. It
needs to be increased for our mutual benefit. We are happy to see the
prosperity in Luxembourg, a very close friend of Nepal. We would definitely
benefit by sharing experience." He highlighted "This chamber
acts as a link between the business communities of Nepal and Benelux
countries. The main objective of the Chamber is to explore and promote
the trade within these countries. Besides, this chamber also aims to
play active role in the transfer of appropriate technology and promotion
of foreign investments.
